2023-2024 Dress Code

Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, Landis Elementary will no longer be a uniform school. Please see the following pages for details about the new dress code policy. This policy, along with RSS Board of Education policy for appropriate school attire, will take effect for the 2023-2024 school year. All students are expected to follow school uniform code for the remainder of this school year. Please click here to submit questions or concerns regarding the dress code policy.

Jewelry

Shirts/blouses must cover the stomach, back and other body parts that are not normally publicly exposed. NO spaghetti straps or tank tops.

• Sleeveless shirts must be an appropriate width (at least 3 inches) on the shoulder and should not have low cut arm holes.
  
• Hooded sweatshirts may be worn to school, but students are not permitted to wear the hood over their head in the building.
  

Pajamas cannot be worn to school unless it is specifically designated as a special class/school pajama day activity.

• Pants/shorts/skirts must be worn so that they fit comfortably around the waist with NO undergarments or skin showing. Long pants should not drag the floor.
• Ripped or shredded pants may NOT reveal skin above the knee.
  

• Shorts/skirts/dresses should be a minimum of mid-thigh in length and maintain that length when walking.
  
• Leggings and yoga pants are permitted when worn under a skirt, dress, shorts, or a shirt that comes mid-thigh.
  

• Biker shorts may not be worn as the only bottom.
  
• Pajamas cannot be worn to school unless it is specifically designated as a special class/school pajama day activity.
  

Tennis shoes are the recommended shoe choice at Landis for safety purposes during an active school day, which includes recess and PE.

• Shoes are REQUIRED to be closed-toed and have a heel strap for safety.
  
• No ‘Heelys’ (shoes with wheels in sole)
  
• Tennis shoes/sneakers are REQUIRED for days that students have PE
  

Shoes that students wear to school should be appropriate for all school activities throughout the day. Students will not be allowed to change shoes during the school day.

Hats and other head coverings (sunglasses, visors, toboggans, bandannas or sweatbands) are not to be worn inside the school building during the school day.

Exceptions will be made for medical and/or religious reasons and for designated occasions.

Jewelry will be worn in a way that does not present a safety or health hazard or cause a disruption to the education process.

Neckwear and bracelets with metal studs, other potentially dangerous items or items displaying profanity or profane notions are not allowed.

All chains hanging from the belt, pocket, or attached to the wallet are prohibited.

Minor Violation

First Offense: Warning

Second Offense : Parent Contact

Third or more Offense : Administrative Conference

Examples of minor violations include, but are not limited to: inappropriate bottom length, shoulder strap width, shirt length with leggings, unsafe footwear.

In addition to the above, administration reserves the right to address any dress code violations they deem inappropriate.

The following is the RSS Board of Education policy regarding appropriate school apparel:

The board believes that the dress and personal appearance of students greatly affect their academic performance and their interaction with other students. The board requests that parents outfit their children in clothing that is conducive to learning. Generally, dress and grooming standards as determined by the student and his or her parents will be deemed acceptable. However, the board prohibits any appearance or clothing that does the following:

1. violates a reasonable dress code adopted and publicized by the school;
   
2. is substantially disruptive;
   
3. is provocative or obscene; or
   
4. endangers the health or safety of the student or others.
   

Before being punished, a student who is not in compliance with this policy or a school dress code will be given a reasonable period of time to make adjustments so that he or she will be in compliance. Disciplinary consequences for a student who fails to comply after being offered this opportunity shall be consistent with Section D of policy 4300, Student Behavior Policies. The superintendent or designee shall list in the Code of Student Conduct.

Las camisas/blusas deben cubrir el estómago, la espalda y otras partes del cuerpo que normalmente no están expuestas públicamente. NO hay correas de espagueti ni camisetas sin mangas.

• Las camisas sin mangas deben tener un ancho apropiado (al menos 3 pulgadas) en el hombro y no deben tener orificios para los brazos de corte bajo.
  
• Se pueden usar sudaderas con capucha en la escuela, pero a los estudiantes no se les permite usar la capucha sobre la cabeza en el edificio.
  

Las pijamas no se puede usar en la escuela al menos que esté específicamente designado como una clase especial de pijama o actividad escolar.

• Se deben usar pantalones/shorts/faldas para que se ajusten cómodamente alrededor de la cintura SIN que se muestre la ropa interior o la piel. Los pantalones largos no deben arrastrar el suelo.

• Los leggings y los pantalones de yoga están permitidos cuando se usan debajo de una falda, vestido, shorts o una camisa que llega hasta la mitad del muslo.
  

• Shorts de motociclista no se pueden usar como la única parte inferior.
  
• Las pijamas no se puede usar en la escuela al menos que esté específicamente designado como una clase especial de pijama o actividad escolar.
  

Los zapatos tenis son la opción de calzado recomendada en Landis por razones de seguridad durante un día escolar activo, que incluye recreo y educación física.
